Apr. 6th, 2016 02:33 pmFor the most part, things have been quiet lately and Luke feels as if he and Reid have flourished in that. The store is doing well, Luke is making more than enough money with the store keep things going, to keep the mortgage paid on the property and with Reid's income it's more than enough to keep them both happy. Their needs are relatively few, though they do both boast an impressive caffeine addiction and Luke eats far more than most people. Beyond that, they're quite simple in their wants.
All in all, it's been a good few months. Luke likes the quiet.
It's early Saturday before the store is open on a day when Reid doesn't have to go into work and Luke is making coffee in the kitchen as the sun comes up over the city. The weather is warm and he's thinking about how nice it'll be to open the front door today and let the air in. There's a heavy wooden box he'd found in the alley one day, that was actually rather nice once he'd sanded and stained it. He's thinking he'll drag that up from the basement to use to keep the door open when the coffee maker makes a soft chiming noise, letting him know it's finished.
At the same time, Reid comes into the kitchen and Luke smiles at him as he turns back toward the coffee maker and it's like the entire scene just shifts.
One moment they're in their kitchen, the scent of fresh coffee on the air. The next they're on a gravel path in the woods, the trees overhead huge and leafy, shielding them from the setting sun. The sun that had only just been rising moments before. Luke blinks into the rays that cut through the leaves on the trees, looking around, utterly bewildered until he realizes where they are. He looks down at himself, takes in the dark clothes he's wearing, the runes he can see etched onto the backs of his hands and then he turns toward Reid, unable to think of a single thing to say.
"I'm still a Shadowhunter," he manages finally, although he knows where they are. He knows when they are. Being a Shadowhunter isn't going to last very long. He's armed, an unnamed seraph blade in one hand, his crossbow strapped over his shoulder, daggers in his belt and his boot, but none of those weapons had helped him the last time. The pack had overpowered him, torn into him, nearly killed him and left him for dead, but he hadn't died. He had turned.
They'll be here soon. He has to get Reid out of here before they arrive.
