At this point Luke has no doubt Michelle already knows about Reid having left Darrow even without being the one to tell her. Breaking the news to Jack had drained him of his ability to tell almost anyone else and he'd done it where necessary, but for the most part he had tried to let people find out through others. That's one responsibility he just can't shoulder at the moment.

But there are other things he needs to take care of and the most pressing matter at this moment is finding someone willing to stay with Jack on the night of the full moon. Luke knows he could ask Magnus or Alec -- or both of them, really -- and that they would probably be happy to stay, but he often gets the sense that Jack feels secure with Michelle in a way he does with few other people and that's important at a time like this.

Today, rather than asking Michelle to come to him, he's forced himself out. It'll be good for him and he knows it, but that doesn't make it easy. He asks Michelle to meet him at a coffee shop near the store, so at least he can retreat home if he needs to, but he's hoping he won't. They'll have a conversation and he'll be able to get through it without feeling the need to run home and make sure Jack is still here and tomorrow it will be a little bit easier to do the same.

He's early and he knows it, but rather than go inside and sit down, he paces the sidewalk slowly outside of the cafe and he waits for her. The weather is starting to cool off a little, which Luke usually prefers, but now it only reminds him of Reid. Of their wedding in the snow. Their anniversary is coming up in just over two months, but he's doing his best not to think of that. Not yet. That's still coming.

Although Luke is absolutely the sort to vet any friends Jack makes in Darrow, he feels like that's to be expected and that anyone befriending a young boy, but unwilling to go through the process of impressing and reassuring his foster dads simply aren't the sort he wants hanging around Jack anyway. But once he's decided the people Jack calls his friends are, in fact, people who can be trusted, he doesn't make a habit out of checking in on them. He's careful and he's always aware of who has Jack and when and what time he's going to be home or if he needs to be picked up, but he's not overbearing.

Doing all of this once before has certainly prepared him to be a little more easygoing with Jack than he was with Clary.

Michelle is different, though, because Luke knows Michelle has been through some things of her own. They haven't spent a lot of time talking about it, but given that he's not exactly that forthcoming with his own past and certain secrets, Luke thinks that's more than fair. He would never presume to press someone into talking about things they might not want to acknowledge, but when it comes to Michelle, he knows he likes her well enough and wants her to feel that she could talk to him. If she wanted to.

That, though, requires some honesty on Luke's part. When it comes to being a werewolf, he prefers to tell people instead of having them find out by accident, which has happened more than once in Darrow and he'd very much like to avoid having it happen again. Especially since Jack cares so much for Michelle, he knows this is an awfully bit secret to carry and he'd like for Jack to have one less to keep from her. It just makes sense to tell her and he thinks, even if she's come from somewhere that seems incredibly normal in comparison, she's been in Darrow long enough that a werewolf won't seem too impossible.

So when Michelle comes to drop Jack off after a dinner together, Luke kisses him on the head and tells him to go upstairs to Reid, then smiles over at Michelle.

"Would you mind... could I talk to you for a little?" he asks. "Before you leave."
