His version of panicking is generally quiet, but as he stands on a street corner, staring up at a building with a large FOR RENT sign in the window, he is, with certainty, panicking. He has only four more nights until the full moon and although the apartment he's been assigned is sufficient for his living needs, it won't hold the wolf.
The walls aren't strong enough for him to attach manacles as he'd done in his bookstore in New York and there's no single room with a lock that will hold him. He'd considered buying another lock, reinforcing the doors somehow, but the building is old, the walls made of plaster, and even if he manages to secure a door, the wolf will have no problem tearing down the walls.
But he's not getting out of here either. Not before the full moon, anyway.
He's been a wolf for seventeen years and in all that time he's never hurt a person. He's fought in battles, he's taken down other wolves and countless demons, even a vampire that had gone off the rails, but he's never hurt a human and he can't start now. There has to be some way for him to keep the people in this city safe.
Chewing his lower lip, Luke takes one more long look at the building and then turns away, nearly walking headlong into someone in the process. "I'm sorry," he says, surprised.
