(no subject)
Sep. 15th, 2016 11:39 amIt's a rare, quiet night in, both Luke and Reid without anything else to do and rather than work, as they often end up doing in their free time, they've found themselves on the couch, a half-eaten bowl of popcorn on the coffee table and an old movie playing on their small TV. It's comfortable and familiar and Luke has absolutely no intention of leaving this place for at least several hours. Until the movie is done, possibly later if he can manage to just switch the channel before either of them decide to get up.
Reid's body is tucked up against his, a warm weight under his arm and he shifts slightly on the couch to get closer to Reid, a soft, contented sigh escaping.
It's been a few days since Alec's birthday party, a few days since Luke has met Jack, and while he knows nothing permanent has been decided or even really discussed, he's known since the moment he opened his mouth and offered his home to Jack even in a casual way, that he and Reid would need to have a discussion. It isn't terribly pressing and he isn't worried that he's done something his fiance won't want to at least talk about, but they've both been busy and he's been waiting for a moment when neither of them are distracted by anything else.
This right here is probably the best time. It's quiet, they're comfortable, they have nothing else going on, no other plans or time constraints. The only thing either of them plan on doing for the rest of the night is sitting right here and then going to bed together, which makes Luke feel like it's the perfect time to talk.
The subject of children is one they've generally left alone. Luke himself has been satisfied with their life as it is now, he finds himself in a paternal sort of role with more than a few of their young friends and while it isn't the same as having a child of his own again, it's filled that void in his life. Ever since talking with Jack at Alec's party, though, Luke has begun to wonder if there isn't room in their life for a little bit more.
Jack is in need of a home. A real home. They have both the space and the love to give. Luke's job works in their favour, since he's more or less home every single day, but there are complications. The fact that he's a werewolf, for one, and the idea that they'd have to accept from the beginning that it might not be permanent. That Jack's mother might one day show up here and they would have to do the right thing and let her care for her son.
But first they need to discuss it.
Shifting on the couch again, he looks over at Reid and says, "I met Jack the other night at Alec's party." It's as good a place as any to begin.
